The federal resources available to the so-called "ETH sector" for 2023 will presumably amount to 2731 million francs. The final decision of the Swiss Parliament on the 2023 budget will be taken in December 2022.
The majority of the funding, i.e. 2,563 billion francs, will go to the two ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne, and the four research institutes: PSI (Paul Scherrer Institute), WSL ( Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research), EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratory for Materials Science and Technology) and EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute of Water Science and Technology) for their management and implementation of development plans.
The remaining resources are reserved for projects centrally planned by the "ETH Board".

Performance, load factors and strategic projects of institutions

When allocating resources, the ETH Board takes into account not only the performance but also the load factors and strategic projects of the institutions.
The services include the various missions entrusted to the institutions of the ETH Domain and their implementation; strategic projects include investments in data science and artificial intelligence, as well as those in quantum research, cybersecurity, data-driven materials research and technological development; among the load factors, the continuous growth in the number of students recorded in recent years should be considered above all.
There are also infrastructural needs linked to new appointments, large construction projects (Empa-Eawag campus) and research facilities (upgrade of the Swiss Light Source SLS 2.0).

Consolidated report 2021 in compliance with international standards

The ETH Board has approved the consolidated report 2021, previously audited by the Swiss Federal Audit Office (SFAO).
The annual report and the financial report will now be submitted for approval by the Federal Council and then published.
In the consolidated report, the ETH Domain reports on the achievement of the Federal Council's strategic goals 2021-2024 for the ETH Domain and presents the governance, major topics and achievements within the ETH Domain.
The financial report provides detailed and transparent information on the financial year 2021 in the ETH Domain and presents the consolidated financial statements 2021 drawn up in compliance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
