The electric single-seater capable of thrilling acceleration is Swiss

Built by the Zurich Polytechnic and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, "mythen" broke the world record for 0 to 100 km/h

The members of the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) are absolutely thrilled with what they have achieved.
For almost a year, the young students of Federal Polytechnic of Zurich and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Lucerne spent every minute of their free time working on an electric vehicle, which they called “mythen”, overcoming failures and returning to the drawing board several times to redefine some components.
Now “Guinness World Records” has confirmed that “mythen” has broken the previous world acceleration record for electric vehicles.
Inside the Switzerland Innovation Park in Dübendorf in Switzerland, right in front of the laboratory student experimentation, their race car accelerated from zero to 100 km/h (i.e. 62,15 miles per hour from rest) in just 0,956 seconds, accomplishing this feat over a distance of just 12,3 meters.

At the wheel was Kate Maggetti, a student.
This result improved by more than a third the previous international record of 1,461 seconds, set in September 2022 by a team from the University of Stuttgart.
“Working on the project on top of my studies commitments was very intense. But, even so, it was a lot of fun to work with the other students to continuously produce new solutions and put into practice what we learned in class. And, of course, it is an absolutely unique experience to participate in a world record”, he claims Yann Bernard, engine manager of the AMZ partnership.

Lighter (140 kilos), more robust (carbon and honeycomb aluminum) and more powerful (326 HP)

All components of “mythen”, from the printed circuit boards (PCB) to the chassis and battery, were developed by the students themselves and optimized for their function.
Thanks to the use of lightweight carbon and honeycomb aluminum, the racing car weighs just 140 kilos.
The four-wheel hub motors, developed by same students, and a special powertrain give the vehicle the impressive power of 240 kiloWatts, equal to approximately 326 HP.
“But power isn't the only thing that matters when it comes to setting an acceleration record: effectively transferring that power to the ground is also key.”, explains Dario Messerli, responsible for aerodynamics at AMZ.
Traditional Formula 1 cars, and single-seaters in lower racing categories in general, solve this problem through aerodynamics: a rear or front wing pushes the car towards the ground, creating downforce.
However, this effect only comes into play when the car has reached a certain speed.
To ensure strong traction right from the start, the AMZ team developed a kind of vacuum cleaner that holds the vehicle on the ground using a suction phenomenon.

A world record disputed between Stuttgart and the Confederation, already queen in 2014 and 2016

The AMZ team had already set the world acceleration record for electric cars twice, in 2014 and again in 2016.
In the following years, their record was broken by a team from the University of Stuttgart.
Now the world record is back in Swiss hands and the students of Zurich Polytechnic they are sure that they will not give it away again soon and easily.

The Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ), founded in 2006, is now embodied by 30 members

The students of the Zurich Polytechnic they founded the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich, acronym AMZ, back in 2006.
Since then, its approximately 30 members have developed a new racing car every year, which it has participated in various international competitions of design, known in Europe as Formula Student.
After initially developing three vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine, AMZ has been building exclusively electric racing cars since 2010.
The club offers students the opportunity to put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired in a technical environment extraordinarily complex.
The AMZ is financially independent and is supported by numerous sponsors and various Swiss universities.
