Innovation and revolution in Velvet Media, a marketing and Web 3.0 agency based in Castelfranco Veneto, in the province of Treviso.
Until the summer of 2022, the approximately 150 employees are called to work on target and not for eight hours and five days a week; holidays and permits will be taken freely and it will be possible to enter the company even at "unusual" times.
For the CEO, Bassel Bakdounes, "we have gone beyond traditional smart working, since the basis is trust and responsibility, even if there is still no adequate legislation".

From Velvet Media and Anothereality the… Metaverse for SMEs

Working remotely and according to productivity criteria can represent a great opportunity for workers and companies
Working remotely and according to productivity criteria can represent a great opportunity for workers and companies

An innovative and "unregulated" experiment in the world of work

Once upon a time there was the card to stamp. There were eight hours to live in the office with strict schedules for five days a week.
A world of work anchored to the concept of time as a measure of productivity.
For most modern companies, however, this model is now at least misleading.
From May to the first days of summer, an innovative experiment in the world of work takes off in Veneto.
It is difficult to give it a "legal" definition, because it is neither smart working nor remote working, it is not the management of project contracts or even the temporary absence from the workplace required by the COVID-19 regulations.

The Velvet Media logotype
The Velvet Media logotype

An initiative in line with the company's "happiness manager".

Velvet Media, after presenting the project to the employees and asking them how they wanted to define it, christened this approach "MyWay Work", because it focuses precisely on the self-management of the employee, and also because a " manager of happiness", called to manage emotions and relationships between colleagues to create the "happiest" workplace possible.
In fact, anyone will now be able to choose whether to stay at home or to come to the office, how many hours to work and above all when to take the holidays.
Total anarchy, then? Obviously not.
The heads of the Web, Social Media, Copywriting, Design, SEM and Commercial departments have been trained in recent weeks to shift operations even more towards specific objectives and not on the amount of hours worked per project.
Therefore, employees are called to prioritize customer orders with even greater determination, but decide independently at what times of the day to complete their work and where to do it.
Same question for holidays and permits: everyone can decide for themselves.

Bassel Bakdounes: “Maximum freedom and trust in people…”

"We are convinced that, if a person is serene and comfortable in private, he will also be able to perform better in front of the computer", explains Bassel Bakdounes, owner of Velvet Media.
“Improving the quality of life generates the possibility of working better. We plan to improve productivity by removing the constraints resulting from an anachronistic cultural heritage, linked to the presence in an office or the number of days and hours worked, and instead giving maximum freedom and trust to people".
And yet: “Today there are a thousand innovative tools that allow us to stay in touch, monitor and consult each other, why shouldn't we really exploit them?”.
Velvet Media's revolutionary choice will be carried out for a few months, until the summer, to evaluate whether a decision of this kind will be enhanced by the responsibility of the employees, many of whom are very young.
To further facilitate the process, during this period the offices can also be used at particular times, such as before dawn or late at night.

One in five employees already have access keys to the office

About thirty employees, a fifth of the total, already have the keys, the company actually opens up to their needs.
"When we spoke to the labor consultants to adapt the contracts to this hypothesis, they told us that we are facing a regulatory vacuum", followed by Bakdounes.
“We want to put our employees in the best working conditions, but there are no regulations capable of allowing a hybrid structure between corporate and personal offices. Perhaps the legislator has not noticed that the world of work has changed, that people have changed, and that there is a need to break the anachronistic rules".
In conclusion, "we trust in a total change, above all of mentality, which is okay to be promoted by entrepreneurs and companies but must also be quickly supported by adequate regulations".
