There is a new, important collaboration that focuses ontechnological integration applied to industrial activities from a sustainability perspective.

Enel, the Enel Group company that operates in the energy supply and efficiency sector, and the Magaldi group, a global leader in ultra-high temperature material handling and specialized in technology development for the generation and storage of clean energy, they presented the innovative MGTES system, acronym for Magaldi Green Thermal Energy Storage.

What is the Magaldi Green Thermal Energy Storage already built in Salerno

Made at the Magaldi Power plant in the Industrial Development Area (ASI) of the Campania municipality of Buccino, MGTES is a battery powered by a photovoltaic system capable of storing energy and releasing it in the form of high temperature steam.

The initiative is part of thethe letter of intent undersigneda by Enel X and Magaldi Power and signeda with the aim of identifying and creating the first plants in Italy is preferably used for decarbonization of thermal industrial processes.

The first application case will see the supply of green thermal energy to meet the energy needs of the food industry IGI, supplier of the Ferrero Group, based in the ASI of Buccino, in the Italian province of Salerno.

The project involves the construction of a 5 Megawatt photovoltaic system and a 125 ton MGTES plant with a storage capacity of 13 thermal MWh per day.

The plant will come into operation in second part of 2024, and is expected to lead to a reduction in consumption equal to 20 percent of IGI's total consumption and CO2 savings of up to 1.000 tons per year, replaced by renewable energy available around the clock.
