All in Japan, in three years instead of four, from April 13 to October 13

The next Universal Exposition will be held in Osaka from 13 April to 13 October 2025 and will focus on the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives".
The organizers expect the participation of around 150 countries and 28 million visitors.
Given the importance of the host country and the close relations in the political, economic and scientific fields, on 12 May 2021 the Federal Council had already expressed itself in favor of Switzerland's presence at the Universal Exposition 2025 in Osaka.
With its most recent decision, the Executive has adopted the related message and the credit request to be submitted to the Federal Chambers for approval.

Under the motto "An innovative Switzerland", the Swiss pavilion will show how the country's innovative strength contributes to sustainability and well-being.

The country with the greatest capacity for innovation is Switzerland

“Life”, “The planet” and “The augmented human being” are the themes on the bill

Three thematic areas have been selected: "Life" ("Life"), focused on life sciences, health and nutrition, "The planet" ("Planet")", focused on the environment, sustainability, climate and energy, and Augmented Human, which revolves around robotics and artificial intelligence.
Five years ahead of the scheduled date for achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the Universal Exposition in Osaka will probably become a global showcase on this issue as well.
Even in times marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of new digital possibilities, the need to organize large events of this type in person is still alive.
In an increasingly competitive context, universal exhibitions are an interesting platform for the Swiss Confederation and the various players in education, research, innovation and the economy to strengthen Switzerland's position as an important innovation hub and to cultivate its international network of contacts.

The total budget foreseen for the Swiss presence in Osaka, including personnel and administrative costs, amounts to 19,4 million francs.
Of these, 1,8 million will be covered by contributions in kind and discounts, for a spending ceiling of 17,6 million francs, while a further 4,4 million will be financed through sponsorships, with a consequent reduction in the net expenses borne by the Confederation.
In this context, the guidelines of the FDFA on cooperation with sponsors for Expo 2025 will apply.
At the same time, the Federal Council appointed Manuel Salchli, Head of Events and Products at Presence Switzerland, General Commissioner of the Swiss Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, and Andreas Baum, Swiss Ambassador to Japan, as Alternate General Commissioner.
