Google has purchased a startup called Raxium, based in Fremont, California, and specialized in MicroLed displays: it officially becomes part of the Device and Services division of the American giant.
According to economic observers and technology experts, the small US company should help the ambitions in the Metaverse di Google, all through the creation of a pair of augmented reality glasses, heirs in some way to the previous Google Glass.
The startup produces displays “ultracompact, low power, high resolution”, which can be used in a wide range of devices, especially wearable ones, to give the user a superior quality of vision, without adding too much weight to the accessories.
“Today we announce that Google has acquired Raxium, an innovator in single panel MicroLed display technologies”, wrote Rick Osterloh, Senior VP of Devices & Services at "Big G", in a short blog post.
“The Raxium team spent five years creating miniaturized, cost-effective, and energy-efficient high-resolution displays that lay the foundation for future display technologies”.

Mini, economical and efficient high resolution displays

Before the confirmation arrived in the last few hours, there was talk of an agreement between Google and Raxium already last March, when the information site "The Information" highlighted the company's great interest in wanting to internally manage the production of key elements for devices that will be specifically addressed to the metaverse.
Terms of the agreement between the parties were not disclosed.
Unlike other hi-tech giants, such as Meta, holder of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, Google she has never gone too far on projects related to augmented and virtual reality, at least not publicly.
Last year, news about the Augmented Reality operating system was leaked, through various personnel searches.
The new generation of eyewear "Big G" are expected for 2024, when a product could be launched that can automatically convert the voice of a speaking subject, in front of them or remotely, into another language, with the consequent appearance of translation subtitles superimposed on the lens.
