The first true industrial-type Metaverse is from the Renault Group

The French automotive giant wants to strengthen the so-called "Industry 4.0" introduced in 2016 and which has resulted in savings of 780 million

Groupe Renault intends to accelerate the digitization process with the first industrial Metaverse, and it proves it.
Currently, 100 percent of the French car manufacturer's production lines are connected (8.500 plants in all), 90 percent of supply flows are constantly monitored and all of the Supply Chain data is hosted in the Metaverse, a veritable own replica of the physical world managed in real time.
Introduced in the so-called "Industry 4.0" since 2016, digital technology has already made it possible to save 780 million euros.

320 million less costs and 260 million less on stocks by 2025

The data speak extremely clear: by 2025, this solution will make it possible to obtain 320 million euros in various savings, to which will be added 260 million euros saved on stocks, a 60 percent reduction in vehicle delivery times and a 50 percent reduction in percent of the carbon footprint of vehicle manufacturing, as well as a considerable decrease in innovation cycles and a contribution to the 60 percent reduction in warranty costs envisaged by the Group.

Jose Vicente de los Mozos: “Every day a billion data acquired by sites”

“Every day, one billion pieces of data are acquired from Groupe Renault's industrial sites”, recalls Jose Vicente de los Mozos, Industrial Director of the Renault Group.
“The Metaverse offers real-time supervision that allows you to increase the agility and adaptability of industrial operations, but also the quality of production and the supply chain. The Renault group thus becomes a forerunner in the sector”.

“Meta” in four dimensions for comprehensive, persistent and real-time outcomes

To be efficient and effective, the Groupe Renault Metaverse requires the satisfaction of four interconnected dimensions.

The inevitable centrality of each data

It all starts with data. To bring together data from all its industrial plants, Groupe Renault has developed a single collection and standardization solution.
It is a massive Big Data collection platform to power the Industrial Metaverse and provide real-time manufacturing process performance levers.
This solution is now marketed in partnership with ATOS and other industrial entities, within the project known as ID@Scale.

Modeling your own physical assets

Groupe Renault then modeled its physical assets by creating Digital Twins.
Each establishment is thus provided with a replica in the virtual world.
Like factories, the Supply Chain can also count on a digitized world.
It is an integral part of the Industrial Metaverse and is, in turn, managed in real time by a control tower.

Integration into an extended ecosystem

The use of Digital Twins is enriched by supplier data, sales forecasts, quality information, but also by exogenous information, such as weather and road traffic, and also by Artificial Intelligence, which allows for the development of predictive scenarios .
The acceleration of digital transformation is made possible by the convergence of multiple advanced technologies (Cloud, real-time, 3D, Big Data, and so on).

Use of very advanced technologies

Groupe Renault has developed a unique platform for the convergence of technologies needed to manage digital twins and their ecosystems in a resilient way.
The combination of these four dimensions constitutes a complete, persistent and real-time industrial Metaverse.

The supervision that the Metaverse guarantees with better visibility of the work environment allows companies to acquire greater agility and autonomy in decision-making processes.
Technologies from the gaming world make user experiences more immersive.
This is the case for painting training courses carried out in virtual reality.
Artificial Intelligence algorithms facilitate the forecasting capabilities of collaborators, as well as optimization and flow management functions for Supply Chain experts.

Frédéric Vincent: “We accelerate the process to become a Tech Company…”

"The technological maturity of Groupe Renault allows the company to take another important step forward in the process of digitization and transformation", says Frédéric Vincent, CIO of Groupe Renault.
“Data control, advanced technology choices and the skills of our teams are all levers to accelerate the process of becoming a Tech Company”.

The industrial data platform "0" (Industrial Data Management Platform 4.0), developed by Groupe Renault, collects all industrial data of Groupe Renault stored in the Cloud (Google Cloud platform).
This data feeds the Industrial Metaverse and allows you to correct and improve manufacturing processes in real time.
From 2019 onwards, for example, 300 alarms have been raised and as many "machine stops" have been avoided.
The Control Tower of the extended Supply Chain is also the point of convergence of the Supply Chain activities in a dedicated space: the "Control Room".
This global supervision tool, in which information flows are concentrated, reports risks and anomalies for all transports in real time and, thanks to Artificial Intelligence, proposes optimized crisis management scenarios.

The decarbonisation of industry leverages energy independence

The decarbonisation of industry, another of Groupe Renault's assets, is intended to act as a lever for energy independence.
The French car manufacturer undertakes to be "Net Zero Carbon" by 2025 for the ElectriCity Center (the latter is the legal entity 100% owned by Renault SAS which brings together the industrial sites of Douai, Maubeuge and Ruitz in northern France), for a total of approximately 5.000 employees and the Cléon plant in the Seine-Maritime department, Normandy, by 2030 for production sites in Europe and by 2050 for all industrial plants worldwide.
Real-time monitoring of the carbon footprint of equipment and transport capacities will be an important tool to achieve the target and a renewable energy mix of 50 per cent in France in 2026 and 100 per cent in 2030.

Patrice Haettel: “Optimization of our industrial sites, even if… at a standstill”

“This industrial Metaverse is unique and allows you to activate hitherto invisible levers of efficiency and performance, at the service of man and the environment”, concludes Patrice Haettel, Director of Strategy and Industrial Engineering of the Renault Group.
"Data management at Group level allows us, for example, to follow in detail the energy consumption of all our industrial sites or not, and above all to optimize them in real time, when a plant is stopped".
