We need philosophers

For my personal "mental constitution" I have always thought that a place in our "mental library" should be assigned to philosophy. I say this not only out of personal conviction but also because today, what happens around us is precisely the result of a lack of thought and what teaches us to think better than philosophy?

Philosophy (from the Greek, composed of philèin, "to love", and sophìa, "wisdom", i.e. "love for wisdom") is a field of study that asks questions and reflects on the world and on man, investigates the meaning of human being and existence, attempts to define nature and analyzes the possibilities and limits of knowledge.

Love for wisdom, it's no small matter, analyzing the possibilities, having what I mean, a visionary thought. It takes courage to be a visionary and those who have had it are remembered by history. In a truly magical encounter for me with Marco Bonetto (Bonetto Design), Luisa Bocchietto (President of ADI), Decio Carugati (Journalist), Nevio Di Giusto (Administrator of the Fiat Research Center) and Walter De Silva (Volkswagen Group Design Director) , Walter de Silva himself came up with this sentence:

“We need philosophers, not technicians. We have too many technicians and you can see the results”

Lack of new ideas, vision, ability to anticipate the times even making mistakes, are the result of a lack of thinking and teaching the importance of philosophy since childhood. We see it clearly today, in Europe, now in perennial stagnation even economically speaking because it lacks the courage to go further, to recognize new opportunities, to reflect on our nature and existence. We are so focused on today that we don't understand that there can be a different tomorrow. We suffer events as if they were an irreplaceable "ethical" continuation of our past. We are so tied to scientific protocols and systems applied to our everyday life that we can no longer free ourselves from the chains of progress. Basically, progress limits progress. Thus we have a technological progress that grows as a function of our philosophical regression or worse still, we are at the point that technological progress replaces the progress of thought. How many times do I hear people say: ah, the politicians of yesteryear. Yes, they stole but at least they were politicians and not political bureaucrats”. Of course, this is very true. Today, the political class relies on technicians due to lack of culture and compensates for their ignorance with the technological thinking of bureaucrats thinking that this can work. But in the end the more circumspect realize that no economic theory worthy of being named as such has ever guaranteed a future, let alone predicted it, if anything only suggested it. That's why I "adopted" a philosophy-coach. Getting back on the road I lost so many years ago isn't easy but if I don't want to die in my cultural inadequacy I have to do something. I certainly don't understand Hegel (and I'm not the only one) but a little Socrates doesn't hurt to start with. Have a good future everyone!
