170 km long, "The Line" will be the first linear city in the world: 9 million people will live in a width of just two hundred meters

On July 25, the start of construction work was officially announced “The Line”, an innovative linear city that will develop over a length of one hundred and seventy kilometers and a depth of only two hundred meters. It will find its place in the northernmost portion of Saudi Arabia, in the province of Tabuk.

The huge and gigantic "beehive", strongly desired by the crown prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud, will work 100 percent with renewable energy and will give priority to the health and well-being of the people who live there rather than the means of transport and infrastructure of traditional and now outdated settlements.

THEartificial intelligence will monitor this innovative idea of the city and will use predictive models and data economy to understand how to improve the daily life of its inhabitants.

In fact, "The Line" will host 9 million residents, will be built on an area of 34 square kilometers, an area never seen before compared to other cities of similar housing capacity as well as at an average altitude of 500 meters above sea level.

“The Line” will offer a new approach to urban design: the intuition of layering city functions along the vertical axis, giving people the ability to move seamlessly in three dimensions (up, down or across), is a concept termed “Zero Gravity Urbanism”.

Each resident will be at most five minutes from public utility services or places of interest and leisure, but the entire infrastructure is "layered" it will be passable in about twenty minutes from a high speed train which will travel end-to-end and will be able to exceed 500 kilometers per hour.

The Saudi government claims that "The Line" will create 380.000 jobs, stimulate economic diversification and contribute $48 billion to the country's national GDP by 2030, i.e. five years after the inhabitants take possession of the first houses within this Asian metropolis of the future.
