CERN Science Gateway: an infrastructure for the dissemination of science in Geneva
CERN's new Science Gateway, inaugurated on 7 October 2023 in the historic suburbs of Geneva, will allow you to discover particle physics like nowhere else in the world

A center of education and almost unique dissemination, where all visitors, starting from the age of five, will be able to discover the passion for science through interactive educational workshops. It will happen between Switzerland and France.

CERN's new Science Gateway was inaugurated on 7 October 2023 in the historic suburbs of Geneva and will allow you to discover particle physics like nowhere else in the world.

The presentation press conference was attended by Fabiola Gianotti, Director General of CERN, who in 2017 first outlined the innovative educational mission of this international institution, the architect Renzo Piano, John Elkann, President of the Stellantis Group and the Agnelli Foundation and major donor of the initiative, the President of the Council of CERN, Eliezer Rabinovici, and, last but not least, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset .

Visitors, young and old, will also be able to explore the usefulness of the facility's infrastructure European Organization for Nuclear Research and the origins of the Universe through immersive multimedia exhibitions, participate in scientific shows, public events and guided tours to get to know the places where it is done science.

The new project outlines the vision of a unique center of its kind, in order to extend the already wide range of educational and awareness programs towards the institution on the banks of Lake Geneva and thus reach an ever-increasing number of visitors, especially children.

Designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop studio, in collaboration with Brodbeck Roulet Architectes Associés, the CERN Science Gateway will welcome between 300.000 and 500.000 visitors each year who will be able to enjoy an immersive experience in CERN's discoveries, science and technologies.

Characterized by two large suspended tunnels, a symbol of the cutting-edge accelerators available on the Franco-Swiss border, the structure will be a real bridge between the public and science, to encourage young and very young people to pursue a career in science and technology.

Numerous films made ad hoc and present on Innovando.News YouTube channel, describe the aforementioned inauguration ceremony, the infrastructure itself by virtue of a preliminary trailer, a memory of the dream cherished by Fabiola Giannotti, an interview with the financier and patron John Elkann, the first visits of science teachers from all over the world and those of boys and girls who will take advantage of the interactive educational workshops on 30 August 2023, the happening of the laying of the first stone on 21 June 2021 in the presence of the master of ceremonies Anna Cook and the politician Antonio Hodgers, the speeches of the five speakers (Alain Berset, Eliezer Rabinovici, Fabiola Gianotti, John Elkann and Renzo Piano) and, finally, a reconnaissance from above with a drone.
