CINECA has produced an accelerated film showing the assembly and lighting process of the 155 racks at the Bologna Technopole
In the presence of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, it was officially inaugurated on the morning of 24 November the European supercomputer which is based at the Big Data Technopole in Bologna.
The infrastructure, which will be managed bythe CINECA, will guarantee 80 per cent of Italian computing power and over 20 per cent of Europe's.
The Leonardo supercomputer was ranked in the same days as the fourth most powerful calculator in the world and will be destined for research projects, scientific and academic use and national and international industrial applications.
The Tecnopolo of Bologna is in fact an initiative that has been carried out for more than seven years and which has benefited from more than 800 million euros of investments, with the aim of creating a high-tech bridge between several realities.
Reliable and efficient operation of such machines requires in-depth insight into the operating parameters of the machine and its supporting infrastructure.
To meet this need and to enable continuous monitoring, archiving and analysis of near real-time performance data from the machine and infrastructure levels from both the maintenance and user perspectives, tailor-made measures are needed
On the occasion, two timelapse videos were released, one of which related to the installation of the 155 racks of the HPC supercomputer and its activation.
