From Eaton the innovative rack for new generation data centers
The G4 PDU is the end-to-end solution with low environmental impact, which combines energy saving with advanced and reliable performance
Eaton, a leading company in intelligent energy management, presented the new Rack PDU G4, so called with reference to the fourth generation, specifically designed to meet the main needs of the most modern data centers, guaranteeing maximum safety and operational continuity.
Founded in 1911, Eaton celebrated its XNUMXth anniversary of listing on the New York Stock Exchange, but is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland.
It reported revenue of $20,8 billion in 2022, serving customers in more than 170 countries.
The G4 Rack PDU is the result of in-depth research and analysis of customer and market needs, which Eaton conducted with the aim of creating a PDU that not only raises the level of computer security, but also offered significant improvements.
The latter occur in terms of network and power redundancy, increasing server capacity and operational flexibility, as well as reducing energy consumption.

Matthieu Jaeger: “Efficient integrated cable retention system and locking mechanisms”
Eaton's G4 Product Manager, Matthieu JaegerSaid: “When designing data centers, it is always complex to define the number of C13 (10 A) and C19 (16 A) sockets needed.”
“In this context, the new Rack PDU G4 offers a one-of-a-kind solution: its innovative C39 combination sockets securely connect both C14 and C20 power cables, thanks to an efficient integrated cable retention system and a lock that protects the connection with the power cable”.
And yet: “Furthermore, thanks to localized production, the delivery of the G4 Rack PDUs takes place particularly quickly”.

Capable of controlling and measuring power consumption for up to 48 outputs
The new G4 range can control and measure power consumption for up to 48 combined outputs in a single chassis, with a measurement accuracy of 1 percent for Amperes, Volts and Watts.
This feature was also developed to meet customer needs: the greater accuracy simplifies billing and consumption recording processes in co-location data centers.

“Designed to protect the servers connected to it from hacking and other potential threats”
“Connected devices are frequently the target of cyber attacks: Eaton's new rack PDU is designed to protect the servers connected to it from hacking and other potential threats. In fact, it has obtained UL 2900-1 and IEC 62443-4-2 certifications for IT security from independent authorities.", added Matthieu Jaegar.
Network redundancy is another crucial element to ensure a constant flow of data.
The G4 Rack PDU improves on this with twin GB Ethernet ports, allowing you to connect PDUs together.
By supporting the connection of up to 32 PDUs on both sides, it minimizes the effects of any unexpected outages, while also helping to keep costs down on unnecessary IT infrastructure elements (such as switches and additional IP addresses).
The redundancy of the power network has also been improved: a new sharing functionality allows the PDU to power the control module of a second PDU in the event of a failure, while still allowing the network to access critical data.

Greater efficiency, compactness and flexibility, also improving IT security
The PDU was designed as an end-to-end solution with low environmental impact: in addition to advanced and reliable performance, it allows for high energy savings.
The G4 Rack PDU step relay, available only on switched and managed models, controls power without the need for continuous electrical input, reducing the energy consumption required for a 80-output rack PDU by 48 percent. compared to the use of standard relays.
The G4 Rack PDU offers the flexibility, security and advanced performance needed for successful data center operations today and into the future.
